Basingstoke Town FC Women 4 - 4 Wight Eagles FC

This last Sunday see the ladies on their first away match of the season away to Basingstoke Town. A horrendous day weather wise see our ladies fly out the blocks against one of the leagues strongest teams, with Ellie Witty breaking their back line and slotting a tidy finish past an oncoming goalkeeper.

Settling into the match the ladies extended the lead through Chloe Marshall, controlling a well delivered ball into the box and shooting low and hard into the bottom right hand corner.

Half time: Basingstoke Town 0-2 Eagles

The second half see Basingstoke start to grow into the game and apply pressure on our team and snatching an early second half goal.

With the teams no die spirit, the ladies rallied again and see Ellena Boakes get her first Eagles goal with a twenty five yard chip over the Basingstoke keeper after beating two Basingstoke players.

Abi Joyce soon followed with a fourth from close range. Unfortunetly Chloe Seager missed an opportunity to make it five, when through one on one with the keeper and this seemed to spark Basingstoke into life.

Soon after Basingstoke was awarded a penalty for handball. A well delivered low cross see the ball slip through our goalkeepers hands due to the wet conditions and Basingstoke had another goal back.

With a very tired team under increasing pressure, the ladies were unable to hold out and see a equalizing fourth goal go in with two mins remaining on the clock. A game our ladies should have seen home, but we are happy to take a point away from a gruelling game on an horrendous day.
