|Wight Eagles FC||3 - 2||Bursledon FC Ladies Reserves|
This past Sunday see the ladies finally kick off the season at home to Bursledon Reserves. The Eagles entered the game up against it with a number of players absent through unavailability and long time number 1 Natalie Blandford being one of those as she faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines. Nevertheless the team was in great spirits just to be playing a match after nearly a year without a league gam. The team came out fast and settled into the game very quickly sending in a number of shots. On the 10th minute Faye Spink got away down the right wing and after cutting in and rounding a defender, passed across the face of the goal for debutant Chloe Stanford to tap home at close range. The rest of the half see a quite closely fought battle with the Eagles getting a number of chances but not finding the net. Right on the stroke of half time see a through ball from midfield split our back line, leaving a Bursledon striker one on one with stand in keeper Emily Weeks who was helpless to save a low shot into the bottom corner.
The second half see the Eagles come out on the back foot and found it hard to get back into a rhythm and quickly fell behind to a second Bursledon goal. The next 10 minutes see the Eagles struggle further to find their feet and came close to conceding a 3rd, only to see it chalked off for a foul on Jordan Bradshaw. This seemed to spur the Eagles back into action and with a couple of subs made, the team started to dominate and find a rhythm, playing some outstanding passages of play and finding our way back into the game through an individual effort by Jordan Bradshaw, who took on a number of Bursledon players before slotting a well taken shot into the left hand side of the net. With confidence building the team pushed forward in hope for a winner and finally finding it in the 89th minute, when Chloe Stanford laid of a ball 25 yards from goal which see Abi Joyce latch onto it and sending a blistering shot into the top right corner. The referee shortly called full time after the kick off seeing the Eagles taking all 3 points in our opening game. A great start to what’s going to be a difficult season ahead for the team.
