Wight Eagles FC 6 - 0 Winchester City Flyers A Team Women

This past Sunday see the Eagles play their second home game of the season at home to Winchester City Flyers A Team. With the sun shining a very young and hungry side travelling to the island see us needing to be on the top of our game to not only get a result, but to bounce back after the previous weeks collapse away to Basingstoke.

With a very even start to the match the opener come from a direct free kick 30 yards from goal, which was drilled home by Ellena Boakes. A contender for goal of the season for sure.

The goal sprung the ladies into life and got our second from another free kick, this time just outside the box and was again drilled home this time from Eloise Powell-Rowland.

Our third come from striker Chloe Marshall who latched onto a short through ball and finished past an on rushing goalkeeper.

Jordan Bradshaw was introduced in place of Chloe and within five minutes got herself on the scoresheet for our fourth goal with a left footed drive into the bottom corner.

Half Time: Wight Eagles 4 – 0 Winchester City Flyers

The second half see both teams come out on the front foot and tried to take the game to each other. Luckily the ladies dealt with the pressure this week alot better and fired in a fifth when Fay Hodgkins battled past her defender and chipped the goalkeeper from just inside the box.

A very good twenty minutes followed by both teams, playing some fantastic football before defender Carmen Simonds picked up a stray ball and run thirty five yards through the centre of the park before playing a through ball into Ellie Witty, who calmly finished to make it 6-0.

A fantastic game of football and we thank Winchester for making the effort to come to the island to play the game and despite the result left in very good spirits. We look forward to seeing you all again later in the season.
