Winchester City Flyers A Team Women 0 - 1 Wight Eagles FC

This past Sunday see the Eagles travel away to Winchester City Flyers for a friendly match. The game was the Eagles first appearance of 2021 and our first game since October 2020. With a number of unavailable players, we travelled with a new look side, sporting a new face and a number of players that had not played or featured in a match day squad since Febuary 2020. With a strongish wind blowing across the pitch the team kicked off and settled into the game fairly quickly, seeing a couple of early chances go wide or saved by the opposition keeper. A number of chances for Winchester see keeper Natalie Blandford called into action a number of times. The whole first half was a very end to end affair, with both teams having their fair share of possesstion and chances, however it was 0-0 going into half time.

Half Time: Winchester City Flyers 0 – 1 Wight Eagles

The second half see the Eagles come out slowly and was under pressure almost straight from the kick off with a number of good efforts saved by Natalie. A change in formation see the Eagles take more control of the game and started to dominate possesstion and create chance after chance. A corner on the 75th minute see a great ball into the box punched by the keeper with the ball then falling to debutant Faye Spink who headed the ball back towards goal for Chloe Marshall, who rose above the keeper to meet the ball with her head and send the Eagles into a 0-1 lead.

Right from the kick off the Eagles with the wind in our sails pushed on for a second. Ellie Witty come off the bench late on to help push for a second and quickly got onto a wide ball and sent a stinging shot over the bar, before a run into the box see Ellie clipped and go down while through on goal which could have resulted in a penalty, but it was waived away by the ref.

With the game finishing 0-1 we could not have asked more from the team with an away win and a solid performance by all the players involved.
